Betty’s Beach Cafe in Lahaina was allowed to reopen on Monday after conducting pest control treatments for a cockroach infestation.

The state Department of Health closed the restaurant Thursday after finding the infestation and multiple harborage areas within the kitchen and front bar.

The department conducted a follow-up inspection on Monday and issued a green “pass” placard to the restaurant following three professional pest control treatments that eliminated the cockroach infestation as well as cleaning and sealing of all cockroach harborage areas, according to a department news release.

To ensure Betty’s Beach Cafe remains in compliance with pest control and prevention, the Health Department is requiring the restaurant to:

• Submit daily cleaning procedures for the kitchen and front bar.

• Continue sealing small openings within the kitchen walls, ceiling and floor line to help prevent any potential future pest harborage.

• Have a professional pest control company conduct pest control treatments/monitoring for the next month.

The department said it will conduct another inspection at the cafe in the future.
